Pierce had plans for his life until one favor for his neighbor Kyle got him hired by the Death Department. The rent is due, the job pays, and apparently his years hauling casualties off the battlefields of the Third Corporate War qualify him to drag dead angels off the crowded streets of City 0.
The job comes with problems: immortal coworkers from Heaven and Hell who barely tolerate humans, a department too broke to afford a car or even a second shovel, and death scenes that refuse to make sense. Most nights, cheap drinks and complaints traded with Kyle are enough to make it bearable.
But when a coworker calls late one night asking for a favor the Department doesn’t want documented, Pierce finds himself caught between celestial bureaucracy and whatever is rotting underneath City 0.
